The Challenge – To make art every day in October. As I generally make art everyday anyway, I’ve upped the challenge and will FINISH a piece every day of this month.
I’m using previously created collages on watercolour paper, cutting them to 4 x 6″, applied gesso then a layer of Golden’s Absorbent Canvas Ground in which I embedded texturaly items – mainly sequin waste and plastic mesh – and this is where I’m starting. The first week’s worth will be based on small (1 ½ ” squares) images of shoes. Everyone loves shoes right?!?

Day 1 – Fluid acrylics swished over the surface, dabbed on and off to create lights and darks. Magazine image glued down then used a sharpie to outline the image. Finally added ink “marks” to emphasize placement. I’m a big fan of circles and arrows if you haven’t already gathered!

Day 2 – Swished Quin Crimson and Nickel Azo Yellow on the substrate then glued down the magazine image. Stamped on the stars using a shimmery gold paint of the kiddy variety mixed with a bit of Quin Crimson. Added some gel pen as a border to the image. Oooo! Shiny things!

Day 3 – Added multiple layers of acrylics, first a light green, then Nickel Azo Yellow, then a quick wipe on of Iridescent Bronze and wiped right off again for that shimmery ‘je ne sais quoi’. Glued down the magazine image and added a border of gold leaf pen and the three stripes as a further reference to the horizontal lines in the image. Love the texture on this one!
I’ll be posting each day and will try and give insight into their creation. Hope you can come along for the ride!
YOU GO GIRL! Looking good so far!
