Winner of Challenge #11
Jen March 27th, 2008
Apologies for the delay in announcing the winner of the last Challenge AND not posting a challenge this week. Alas, time constraints and deadlines have been foisted on me (how rude!) and I just haven’t done HALF the things I’d hoped to before I fly west to ArtFest. More about that in a mo’. First, the random draw winning number goes to Lee. Yay! Send me an email Lee and I’ll send you off a goodie or two.
It might take a couple of weeks as on Monday, March 31, I fly to Seattle for a week to take part in my very first get-away workshop - the Bahuna Kahuna - ArtFest. In its 8th year, put on by Teesha Moore, it is an art camp for grownups - figuratively and literally as we bunk down in old military barracks, eat in the dining hall and take all manner of classes by the best of the best in mixed media/altered artists.
I’ve been wanting to go to one of these - there are others and more springing up each and every day - for many years now. Both for the instruction but just as importantly to connect with like-minded artists that don’t cringe when faced with bones or rusty bits of metal or odd techniques. Y’know, *my* people. When the class line up was published last fall, I noted a class put on by Michael deMeng titled "Morpheus Box". I’ve always had this thing about spinning boxes with drawers ever since seeing Monty Hall marching into the audience of Let’s Make A Deal with his box of wonders. And yes, I realize I am SO dating myself with that memory. heh. Anyway. I knew I had to go - 2008 was the year. And now, I’m days away from boarding the plane and meeting face to face, many of my online friends for the very first time, hanging out with 500 like-minded crazy artists and am totally excited. And totally not ready.
Which leads me to this week’s challenge … and next week’s challenge … and the week after that too. Suffice it to say I will be on a short hiatus until Friday, April 11, 2008 wherein we’ll resume the fun. In the meantime, keep on making art, keep stretching yourself and let me know what you’re up to and working on.
I’ll leave you with another announcement AND the first in a new series using "mower teeth" called "Home". This one is titled, "Home = Love".

My work is now available at the wonderful Flying Pig Gallery in Algoma, Wisconsin. One day I WILL visit and sit with coffee chatting to Robyn and Susan along with my good friend Sue. Thanks so much ladies. You’ve made this whole growth thang a warm and fuzzy experience. And if any of you visit The Flying Pig, take a photo of my work insitu and I’ll send you a treat!

Jen,
I’m currently away in Mexico but had a moment to check out Seths blog.
I was touched by your piece on aging. It’s a subject that is very much a part of my life at the moment.
Just wanted to let you know that it’s a terrific piece.

Have a blast at Artfest!
Have fun at Artfest, I myself am going to Art & Soul in Hampton this year. It will be my second time. I hope to get to Artfest one time. 2 weeks is a good hiatus,as I’m in the process of buying a house and moving right now I’ll be ready by that time!
I’m jealous. I was just reading all about Artfiberfest last night in Art & Life.
Have fun!
Oh, I am soooo going over there to take pictures this week end-lol!!
Have a great time at ArtFest, and make sure you hook up with Annie if you can, you’ll love her! We share the same birthday, so knowing me you have a good idea of what you’re in for with her:) Seriously, she’s a doll!
Have a fantastic time at Artfest! You are going to love your class with Michael. He is an awesome teacher, very giving of his talent. Make sure you say hi to Judy while you are there.
Cheers,
Jo
P.S.
We will have Nina, Misty and Traci B over here in Australia in May and I am so excited!
I love this piece Jen, and congrats on having your work in the Flying Pig Gallery … wish I could fly there and see it all.
Thanks for my wonderful prize. I took photos and posted them to my blog. I’m thinking I need to display your heart somewhere special, or maybe carry it around with me as a good luck charm!
Hey Jen,
Way to go! Flying Pig is my kinda place. Wish I could see it in person.
I’m also very jealous about your upcoming trip. One of these days…
Your blog is very inspiring.
Thank you for all you do!
HI, Jen! I am phinny and I found you via Hannah Grey’s group and shop where you are a design team member. Way to go!
I live in Seattle and I have family in Port Townsend, WA where Artfest is held each year. I found it too late to join this year (you have to register and sign up for classes WAY in advance b/c it’s so awesome and so popular.) BUT, I am planning on going in 2009 so I hope you post a review of your time there and some pics. I hope you have an amazing time and I look forward to hearing about it when you get back.
Remember, it’s cool out here so dress in layers. It’s mild and sunny during the day and damp and cool at night so its easy to get chilled. But it’s one of the most gorgeous places on the planet. I know you will love PT if you haven’t been here before. It’s a neat, little artsy town!
Best to you!

Artfest sounds like a great time. I look forward to hearing about it when you get back!
Been meaning to write about deMeng’s Secrets of Rusty Things but I haven’t gotten around to it. I’m very curious to know how he is as a teacher.
I love your work. It’s very inspiring! I’m 12 and I am an artist too. I’ve had a jewelry business for 2 years now. I just started a site on ETSY and a blog about my work. Thanks for sharing your cool stuff!! Cambria
