Hannah Grey Design Team

Cupid Shrine

Part of the fun of being on a Design Team is getting totally cool ‘new-to-you’ stuff to make things with. My box from Hannah Grey arrived the week I returned from ArtFest and after a quick cursory look through, saw the metal fencing and knew exactly what I wanted to make with it - an homage to the amazing cemetaries of Portugal and Cuba. Other HG things in use: the wee plastic baby, some bones - judiciously cut with the Dremel - an angel image, plastic barbed wire and some full sheet sequin waste.

I used a box purchased from the Dollar Store with the intention of creating a "shrine-a-day" for the month of November. Hey! I’m nothing if not an overachiever! So whenever I get the chance to use up another box, it’s a Good Thing. I had some transparencies left over from my Michael deMeng ArtFest transparency class and with a touch of titanium white brought out some of the obvious parts - angel’s head and wings - torched the sides and put it over the box opening. In RL you can quite easily see the HG image behind.

I’m also playing around with my ‘just made’ cheapo light box. I need to make the insides a bit more seamless. And get a better light but am quite pleased with how it turned out. Because let’s face it, it’s all about how stuff looks. Am I right?!?

And a note on the S-T-R-E-T-C-H challenges … they’ll be moving to a monthly format during May through September, picking up to once a week during the Fall & Winter. But we don’t even want to THINK about that now, do we?! The next challenge will be posted on May 1. In the meantime, please feel free to continue adding to Challenge #12.

  1. Oh my, this is so lovely Jen. I adore the pieces that you have used, the little cherub on top, the rusted barbed wire and the fencing are great. HG has such wonderful supplies.
I’ve been meaning to have a go at making one of those light boxes but it just hasn’t happened yet. Did you use a cardboard box to make yours? I think I remember reading somewhere that an opaque white bucket works quite well too, you don’t get any seams.

  2. Fabulous job Jen! I just love the feel added by the transparency angel. The gold of the cherub and such is fabulous. Great job.

I am so pleased to hear that the challenges will be continuing through the summer. I am looking forward to seeing the next challenge on may 1st :)

  3. Gorgeous! Love the light box idea!

  4. What a fabulous assemblage. love it!

  5. Wonderful, as usual! Love the fence and the feet under the house, you’re so good at the details that make a piece complete & always interesting.

  6. Hey Jen,

These are really cool. Love the treatment you gave the roof in the second pic.

I’m swamped with school, starting the new art video company and getting ready for the move right now, so might not be as active a participant in the challenges for awhile as I was. Will participate when I can, though ’cause I love ‘em!

    xoxo
