Sometimes a Frog Prince…

… is just a frog.

Sometimes a Frog Prince is just a frog
Sometimes a Frog Prince is just a frog

Y’know something I never ever have problems with are titles for my work. They generally come to me during the creation, usually quite forcefully, occasionally sotto voce. This one didn’t commit until I was making the back label before it’s sent off to The Flying Pig. And then it just trilled off my pen. It makes me laugh!

I was experimenting with plaster over burlap which I’d applied onto the framework - an old canvas I didn’t like/want anymore and ripped off the material and was NOT going to chuck a perfectly finished frame. I love the textural quality of this combination though I think I’ll try it with some finer weaves to see how that works.  I’m almost out of these great metal ceiling tiles which make dynamite house hats dontcha think? Guess an ebay troll is in my future. Oh the suffering for my art! ;)

I Love Your Blog

And thanks to Patti Edmonds for givin’ me some love. I couldn’t possibly single out seven blogs … there are just so many good ones out there … but a start might be to visit some of the blogs listed over there –> OODLES of eyecandy to keep you occupied for hours and hours and hours. Thanks again Patti!

    HI Jen,

VERY cool piece!!! Don’t you just love getting plastered?!?! :) I frequently use a plaster-over-burlap technique (which is then cracked and sanded etc etc) and I LOVE it!! The reason burlap holds the plaster so well is because of the fibers of the burlap grab it. Plaster isn’t really adhesive in and of itself. If you want to try finer weaves of fabric, I HIGHLY recommend adding 1 tsp-1T. of wood glue to 1 cup of dry plaster. Add water and mix as usual. Maybe you already know all this but I just thought I’d mention it from one plasterer to another. :)

    ENJOY!!! Awesome work!!

I especially love that the “Frog Prince” is going to the “Flying Pig” — great word play, too!

    NIce piece Jen!
Do you add anything to the plaster before appying it to the burlap. Also, what do you use to coat the whole piece when your done plastering and painting?

    thanks

You create such intriguing works, always such depth to them. And you do great titles :) just in case anyone wants to take it too seriously.

I’m afraid I’ve been away for awhile, I hope to get back to the challenge. You don’t know how appropriate CHANGE has turned out to be for this month, OMG! This week learned my hubby will need a heart transplant in the not distant enough future. Still reeling.

Oh my goodness. Your piece is gorgeous! And you tore the canvas off a frame did ya? I might have to do that with a few I have that are terrible. Beautiful work!
