Challenge 4 - Citrus

Challenge 4 - Citrus

And oh! BAYBEE! did I struggle with this one.
The artist board is 12 x 14″ and my least favourite size hence the reason I have a metric buttload of unfinished works in this size.

What I did:

I grabbed all images I had kicking around that fit into the citrus theme.
I then glued down on top of the canvas – which ironically had a copper orangey work on it to begin with – were the gods smiling in my favour?? I could only hope.

The hardest part of the ‘glue down process’ was to cover up what I considered penultimate “citrus” images. I battled this with ripping up another piece of citrus-inspired ephemera and slapping it down right in the middle of said coveted image.

It seemed to work and there really isn’t any one image that sticks out.
I then mixed up some Golden Iridescent Copper, Quinacridone Burnt Orange and molding paste and scuffed it over the surface. I also added some crackle paste and then imprinted sequin waste and other textural elements and left to dry. The next process was similar to my normal wipe on wipe off technique with the exception that I didn’t allow myself to use any black or black-like paint.

Oh. So. Hard!

The photo was one from my stash that I love and cut the base – similar to inlay on a book cover – to accommodate it. The frame, washers, copper peak and lemon danglies all finish off the piece.

Anyway.
All this to say, that it was a very big stretch and while not my favourite piece, I’m happy with it.

Another challenge Done!
Next up … posted in a minute.
