Remember my collaboration with Seth Apter and Bridgette Guerzon Mills?
It started just a little over a year ago with each of us creating a book form and a theme for the others to add to. Mine, entitled “Shine” was/is a set of metal pages that I intend to use horizontally as prayer flags.
Well, the second full round has just been completed and I just had to share what we’ve achieved so far. Please note that both Seth and, in particular, Bridgette do not work with metal. So I’m really asking them to stretch out of their comfort zone on this collaboration. But, oh my!, they have rewarded me in spades!
Here are all 6 pages together. Individual pages with details are below.
Seth’s first page:
Detail of back of page:
Bridgette’s first page:
My second page, with detail:
I love the combination of metal and bone. The back which isn’t shown is etched with the word “Shine”. I did a bunch of etching on the front as well, in each of the 4 corners. As well as a sun around the top of the rather loose shrine shape.
Seth’s 2nd page. OMG I love the many details of this page – the stitching across the top, the weight of the page (the round thing in the center looks like stone, not sure if it is though. Seth?)
And the back is equally cool:
And finally, Bridgette’s 2nd page, prophetically using Madonna & child imagery as Bri expects her 2nd child. I absolutely ADORE the fabric pieces attached at the bottom of this page. So rustic and evocative of “handmade” in deep contrast to the hard properties of the metal shrine. Detail of the hand stitching, raveling bits of detritus below.
We are now entering the 2nd year of this collaboration with 6 pages remaining to fill. I can only imagine where we will go from here!

Lovely, lovely, lovely!
Thank you sir!
Great images! Lovely new blog look too.
Thanks Robyn! Nice to see someone visits the actual website. I'm the world's worst sticking to my reader pretty much always!
oh, look at all I've missed! Am loving the collaboration (really, really loving it!), Happy New Year to all, and looks like I missed your birthday, Jen? This is what I get for spending the holidays & then some at the hospital-damn
! One more specialialist, 1 more night as an overnight quest, and a few decisions to be made-then it's done-all done!!
You have a great New Year! Missed you, my friend!
Aw sweetheart you've had a rough go of it. Glad you're almost home and hope your recovery is complete. Look forward to seeing you post some art soon I hope!! xo
so beautiful !!! a really fantastic art work
I'm beyond thrilled and feel very, very lucky to be working with Seth and Bridgette!
Absolutely amazing! I love every detail on these pages. I wonder what the metal is from on Seth's second page. That is so cool.
Kerin, the actual metal page is, if you can believe it, a chintzy pink "shelf" that I had kicking around and ripped apart, the kind found in a dollar store for little girls.
So great to see them all lined up like this. And so happy you have stretched my comfort zone with this project. And to answer your question…the round piece is slate that I painted with acrylics.
I *thought* it was stone, both from the weight and roughness. You've given me food for thought as Lunenburg county is BUILT on shale!
Jen—These are just incredible. How fortunate you are to be in such a great collaboration. BTW: am LOVING my necklace. I wish you had more jewelry…I'd be buying it!
Aw thanks Teri! So glad you're enjoying the necklace and I might have to add some jewelry to my "To Do" list!
Stunning!
I'm thrilled to be part of this collaboration!
Have any thoughts that you might like to do something together some day Sonya??
Wow! This is just incredible! What wonderful work from all three of you. Can't wait to see what happens next!
Evangeline, welcome! And thanks for your kind words. I'm chuffed with all 3 of our collabs!
OOh !! These are cool !!
What a great & creative group you are having !
Lay Hoon, thank you for your kind words. And I agree. Seth and Bridgette rock!
Wow. the colors, composition, and textures… I am so pleased to see these pages all up close… Love 'em…
They ARE pretty special aren't they Gwen? Nothing like a collaboration to get the juices flowing in directions we might not otherwise go.
these look so great all lined up and much different shots than on Seths post. love the madonna!
Caterina, these are my photos of Seth's work hence their difference. The Madonna is Bridgette's work and so appropriate giving her pending bebe!
I love seeing all this work together – it's amazing! I look forward to seeing more.
Thanks Leslie. I'm excited to see where this goes too!
