My fall is marked by stepping stone birthdays into Thanksgiving (Canadian eh?) and onto the cusp of Christmas.  And each year as the festive season looms larger I get inspired to make …make… make. With all the gorgeous etsy sites out there now it makes me want to “mass produce”. I honestly don’t know why. I hate Hate HATE doing more than one or two of something. And if you ask me to do twenty? (been there done that) I’ll change it a dozen times to stop getting bored.

But. I still feel that way.

And what I’m learning is to dissect the feeling from the object and figure out what it is I’m ACTUALLY wanting. hmmm. Too obscure maybe? Okay. Take this need to mass produce. To become a “crafter”. (oh. don’t get all semantic-y on my ass. we all know that there IS a difference between craft and art. I love’em both! let’s move on shall we?!)  It stems from the need to channel my inner North Pole Elf, tiptapping my little hammer surrounded by paint jars at a long wooden table taking brief breaks for cocoa and cookies with a pile of finished whirligigs and bamboozlers at the end.

There. That finished pile is where the feeling originates. For some reason, at this time of the year I feel this overwhelming need to stockpile. From ancestral recesses perhaps? Needing that larder filled meant the difference between making it through another long cold winter and ..well.. not.

Whatever.

Come November you will find me browsing through etsy shops like they’re all going to close tomorrow. Stockpiling imagery for the long winter months to come.

Here’s something I’m currently working on. I know. I’m as shocked as you!

Not a great photo but … this is 4-16×20 canvases bolted together, the largest piece I’ve ever worked on. What you see here is all underlay stuff. Cardboard and papers and fabric plastered down with molding paste and crackle paste, gesso and paint. My 3/4″ brushes just aren’t cutting it. And MAN! you go through a lot of paint. lol I had to crack some standard acrylic interior cans. Kinda therapeutic though.

So there have been earthquakes in Ottawa, tornadoes in Midland and Jen is in the studio. Yes dear readers, the end IS nigh!!

Some of the unsold work that has been at The Flying Pig was returned to me, so I’m adding them to etsy. I figured, Why Not?!? But if you see something you like and for whatever reason don’t want to go through etsy but want that piece, lemme know and we can work out a deal!

Long-timers may recognize some of the mixed media pieces from artsomofo way  back when – 2007? 2008? Ack! Can’t remember. A favourite of mine, if for no other reason than its title makes me smile “Sometimes A Frog Prince Is Just A Frog”, with the central metal piece dating back to when I did Stephanie Lee’s book project by project.

And. AND! I finished Cynjon … Judah mea culpa Mr. Man! …’s assemblage challenge (hide your eyes if you want to stay surprised). I know. I can’t quite believe it either. Here’s the finished piece … a rather HORRIBLE photo but ’twill have to suffice for the time being.

Teri, your “parts” are being pondered on the table … can you BELIEVE it?!? I know. Me either!!
