Ho! Ho! Ho!

Raven #2

Regular studio work has pretty much subsided while I work on Christmas related *stuff*. And no I can’t show it, sorry, lest those being gifted y’know actually read this. The above is currently sitting on my table - work in progress - but likely won’t be touched for awhile. The second of three raven heads I made out of flashing. I can highly recommend this cheap metal as it’s very accessible (read : cheap) and reasonably pliable so you don’t require specialized tools. But I digress.

Wish

Inspired by an online friend, I’ve been making Christmas/Holiday cards while watching TV. Armed with my new best friend pen - Zig .005 - and nary a pencil in sight, I’ve been drawing freehand onto pre-made 4 x 5" cards. In a previous life, I pretended I was Mary Englebreit and used to make/draw images like this one all the time. Small girls holding teddy bears, partridges in "bear trees", mice in santa hats drawn with my trusty - now deceased RIP - quill pen and black india ink, coloured with watercolours or Prismacolour pencils. Cute and oh! so precise. These aren’t quite that precious - a little raw around the edges and some ‘over the line’ colorations. But I’m having SUCH a good time. If you think you’d like one, I’d be most happy to oblige. :)

An embarrassment of riches!

… by Sue: Name five things I would like to be when I grow up.

  1. An ironman.
  2. Have multiple solo art shows under my belt.
  3. Well travelled.
  4. Multilingual.
  5. Have lived on another continent.

I wrote these down right off the top of my head. A rather interesting list and more so that "ironman" should have been #1. That might have more to do with my morning’s work out than anything else.

The Members’ Show opens tonight and am really keen to see how "Angel of Death" goes over. I think I’ll be hearing, "Now that’s  [pause] interesting." more than once! On another art note I’m contemplating joining a life drawing class but frankly am a bit intimidated. I haven’t done any life sketching since school, more than *gulp* 26 years ago. There is a minor scheduling conflict and I’m trying my darndest not to let that stop me. Wish me luck!

Oh! And Cyndi featured Urban D. as the kick off to October on Layers Upon Layers. You are the sweetest, dearheart! xoxo

ATC Quarterly

ATC from the Hat Series

Through the serendipitous meeting with Nancy Flynn, who passed my name onto Ronna Mogelon, editor of ATC Quarterly, I will be profiled in the ATC Quarterly Winter issue. I’d never heard of this publication before and - certainly from the website looks like a very professional zine indeed! - I immediately subscribed. It’s Canadian to boot! AND I’ve been inspired to jump on the ATC bandwagon again. Wanna trade??

20 Things Zine…

Jen March 2nd, 2007

Well the final pages arrived yesterday so I spent today, assembling “zines” - you can see more photos in 20 Things Zines - they are absolutely STUNNING and am thrilled with everyone’s creations. These artists really stepped up to the plate and I’d like to thank each and everyone of them! :)
